Anneka Rice has described herself as an “obsessive fan” of The Great British Bake Off. With that in mind, the 62-year-old TV star has now had the chance to take part in the celebrity edition of the baking competition, set to air next week.

In her next breath, Anneka admitted that she was “disastrous” in the kitchen, so viewers can expect an entertaining appearance on the much-loved programme.

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant revealed that her cake mix rarely makes it into the oven, as she loves to eat the raw mixture.

However, because of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent health and safety rules that are in place, the mum-of-three was not allowed to taste her cake batter while on set.

Anneka said that she had to be “very disciplined” in order not to dip her fingers into the bowl.

When asked about her baking stills, the Challenge Anneka star admitted: “I don’t bake at all.”

She said her sons thought it was hilarious that she would be taking part in the contest and laughed about it for two hours for that very reason.

Anneka is mum to Thomas, 32 and Josh, 31, from her marriage to Nick Allott and Sam, 21, she shares with TV executive Tom Gutteridge.

She went on to talk about her baking experience and her stint in the tent.

“I also love the taste of cake mixture so I never manage to get a cake into the oven as I eat it raw.

“During the show, I thought I’d be able to tuck my way through all the mixture, but there was a Covid monitor,” she told Radio Times magazine in their latest issue.

“They wouldn’t allow us to dip our fingers into the bowl so I had to be very disciplined!” Anneka went on to add.
