It Takes Two host Janette Manrara has revealed that she struggled to hold back tears when interviewing her Strictly Come Dancing professional husband Aljaz Skorjanec for the first time on the show. Speaking to Express.co.uk and other publications at the Together For Short Lives event, the presenter of the BBC spin-off show, 38, told how she had to “contain” her tears when speaking to Aljaz, 31, and his celebrity partner Sara Davies on the programme.

When asked how she found chatting to her husband of four years in a professional capacity, Janette said she was excited to get the gossip from his partner Sara.

She said: “I loved it.

“I was like, ‘I’m gonna get the juice from Sara live,'” she joked.

Speaking about Aljaz’s reaction to her new presenting role, Janette gushed over how supportive the Slovenian native has been.

She said: “He’s been so supportive, he’s the proudest husband in the world.

“When he sat down on the couch across from me on It Takes Two for the first time, he said the nicest things, and I almost started crying.”

The Miami-born star explained that she just about managed to hold back the tears.

“And I was like, ‘Contain contain contain, we are live on camera,'” Janette added.

She went on: “But no, it’s nice to interview him.

“It’s nice to kind of just watch him do his thing from an outside perspective and not be in it the way that I normally am.”

Janette also spoke about whether she’ll ever return to the popular BBC show as a professional dancer.

She said: “I would love to go back.

“I don’t think it’s ever been done.”

The dance star added that she didn’t think it would be possible to appear on both programmes at once due to timing constraints.

“And to be honest with you, I’m doing It Takes Two, as I’m doing the live show, you can’t do both, it just takes up too much of your time.”

Speaking about her aspirations outside of Strictly, Janette revealed that she has her sights set on landing roles on the big screen.

Addressing Aljaz’s role in Netflix’s musical film Matilda, Janette said: “That’s something I’ve got my eye on, I would really love to get into films.

“I did a lot of television and in LA when I was working there for a while.”

Reflecting on her time in hit show Glee, Janette admitted feeling like she was on a film set.

She said: “And Glee kind of felt like it was a film in Paramount Studios, I remember thinking at the time that it would be pretty cool.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.40pm on BBC One.
