Royal Mail will regularly let customers know how services are running in the UK. The service explained why some areas may be experiencing delays this week.

Many couriers have noticed an increase in demand as lockdown measures have many Britons staying at home.

With non-essential retailers currently closed in most parts of the UK, shoppers have been forced to look online for certain products.

This has caused a spike in the numbers of letters and parcels being processed by services such as Royal Mail.

Today, it shared an update on its website of how operations are running.

It explained services are running as normal in most parts of the UK, however some people could be hit by delays.

A statement said: “We’re delivering and collecting mail in all parts of the UK today. Deliveries may be disrupted in some areas due to resourcing issues at some of our delivery offices.

“We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week.

“If resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures prevent this, we’ll deliver at least every other day.

“It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels – that this may not be possible.”

Even when resourcing issues affect delays, customers should receive parcels and letters at least every other day.

Resourcing issues can be caused by colleagues self-isolating in line with Government guidance.

“During the coronavirus pandemic, we’re doing all we can to keep our people and our customers safe while keeping the UK connected,” the statement continued.

“Like the rest of the UK, our people are following Government and NHS advice on self-isolation and social distancing.

“In a small number of our delivery offices we occasionally experience resourcing issues if a significant number of employees have to self-isolate for a period of time.”

The rise in demand has also led to delays in some parts of the UK.

“This, along with the continued rise in parcels as more people shop online, can restrict our ability to provide full delivery services,” the statement added. 

“So, we may not be able to get to your address every day.

“But we will do everything we can to deliver to you as often as possible and to return services to normal as soon as we can.”

Royal Mail will regularly update Britons on any possible delays.
