Netflix drama Ozark got even darker this year with Wendy Byrde (played by Laura Linney) revealing how ruthless she could really be. Season three saw her making some big decisions with life-changing consequences. Her actions came as no surprise after the choices she made in season two to keep her family safe.
Why did Cade Langmore star Trevor Long really leave Ozark?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Ozark
Cade Langmore met a violent end in the season two finale of Ozark when it looked like he was leaving town after getting a bagful of cash from Wendy Byrde.
He was threatening to go to the police and Wendy offered him hush money.
Despite Cade’s cheery demeanour, things went very wrong after he got killed in a hit. The assassin took the cash as payment and left.
Later Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) mourned over his cold, dead body as he lay in state in the mortuary.

Ozark season 4 theories: Ruth and Wyatt betrayed by Three and Byrdes
At the time, it was unclear whether Ruth knew how her father met his end but season three revealed she had a good idea of what had gone down.
Ruth hinted as much to her boyfriend Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey much to his shock at his sister’s callous nature.
In season two, Cade was a major character and viewers got an insight into his complex relationship with Ruth.
There were even hints of something sexual passing between father and daughter. The most explicit moment of his incestuous romance came when Ruth kissed him on the lips after he died.
Cade was a source of tension for Ruth, symbolising her old life as a Langmore versus being part of the Byrde family.
Speaking about Cade’s death, actor Long told the Metro in 2018 how he knew a month before filming started on the second season.
Ozark’s showrunner Chris Mundy called Long to let him know he was going to be in all 10 episodes but sadly Cade would be meeting his maker by the finale.
Long said to the publication: “Hey, it shows Chris’ character that he called me and let me know what was up.
“Many times, actors would find this out on like episode eight.”
He continued: “So, although I was bummed, it really helped to know that and let it go and not have to constantly be thinking, ‘Am I going to die? Am I going to die?’”
The US star added: “So, I’m grateful to Chris for that bit of news.”
From his words, it seems it was a creative decision rather than the actor’s choice.

Ozark plot hole: Ruth should have been arrested for robbing Marty
Ozark has a high body count – such is the nature of the show and each death brings with it lots of consequences.
His death opened-up the story for more drama and character development on Ruth’s part and her ongoing identity.
Ruth’s knowledge about the hit on her father probably factored into her decision to stop working for the Byrdes.
There were other reasons, such as her boyfriend Ben’s murder and how the Byrdes failed to act after she was brutally attacked by Frank Cogrove Jr (Joseph Sikora).
Ruth’s decision to then joined forces with Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) can also be traced back to Cade’s murder.
Ultimately, it was Ben’s execution which was the last straw but losing Cade was part of it.
